Zuhaib S. Mahmood
I am beginning a two year National Science Foundation Post-doctoral fellowship starting January 2021.
I will be in residence at Duke University, where I will be working on a project to forecast international involvement in civil wars. My work is being co-sponsored by the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program as well as the Security & Preparedness program. An abstract of the award can be found here.
My methodological interests include text-as-data; predictive modeling; and computational social science.
My substantive interests include international conflict and cooperation, the international politics of civil wars, and diplomacy/communication between states. My dissertation examines characteristics of speeches at the UN, focusing on the political correlates of these speeches as well as the information contained therein.
